DATE SPAN: 12/01/1591 - 05/31/1592
DESCRIPTION: Annual letter for 1591 directed to General Claude Aquaviva in Rome. Province of Peru covered much of the West Coast of South America, including Peru, Ecuador, and Chile, with discussion of communications with Paraguay, Panama, and Brazil. In theory, the text should be close to that in the "Monumenta Peruana," vol. V (1970), doc. 72, but it differs not only in organization, but facts.
DATE SPAN: 01/01/1592 - 03/31/1595
DESCRIPTION: Three years's report together, in two different hands. Mentions most of the same locations as the previous report, but with more attention to natural phenomenon (weather, communication problems).
DATE SPAN: 01/01/1595 - 12/31/1702
DESCRIPTION: Report for two years.
DATE SPAN: 01/01/1611 - 05/31/1612
DESCRIPTION: Gives an optimistic account of the increases in the various categories during the year 1611. Reports on the college at Lima, as well as a seminary within and settlement outside of the city. Also mentioned are colleges at Arequipa, Potosi, Cochimbamba, and others I do not recognize, as well as missions to Indians and into the mountains.
DATE SPAN: 01/01/1612 - 05/31/1613
DESCRIPTION: Ink has badly burned the paper on this one which is the most fragile of all in this collection. Note that the report it differently titled although it appears to include the same material, beginning with the College of Lima which, it says, is a the head of the Province.
DATE SPAN: 01/01/1614 - 05/09/1615
DESCRIPTION: Begins the report, as usual, with the College at Lima, devoted to theology, has 25 students and three professors, of whom one is teaching Thomas Acquinas. The provincial reports on visits to other sites, Callao, to the Indians around Lima, as well as reporting deaths and losses.
DATE SPAN: 01/01/1615 - 05/31/1616
DESCRIPTION: A more elegant hand and style mark this annual report than those preceding. This year the province had 390 members for eight colleges, one probationers house, three seminaries and fifteen residences, dispensaries, and others. In this year or the one before a greater use of unfamiliar Latin names for cities begins to augment the vernacular names which have nevertheless until this day outlasted the imported names.
DATE SPAN: 01/01/1617 - 12/31/1617
DESCRIPTION: This report is unsigned and the last few pages are in a casual, cursive hand with many abbreviations.
DATE SPAN: 01/01/1704 - 12/31/1704
DESCRIPTION: The first twelve pages of this report are missing. The report mentions, for the first time that I noticed, the erection of a Reductio, and refers to Reductions as the locations of certain events. This report is much longer 92 pages) than earlier ones, more elaborately organized into 26 parts, and includes a necrology (the last part).
